AM2NTD has released a comprehensive policy brief outlining a framework for integrating modeling insights into national NTD elimination strategies. The brief, developed in collaboration with the WHO NTD Department and national program managers from four African countries, provides practical guidance for health ministries seeking to leverage mathematical modeling to optimize their NTD programs.
The policy brief addresses several key areas:
- Identifying decision points where modeling can add value
- Building necessary data systems to support modeling activities
- Developing institutional arrangements for sustainable modeling capacity
- Creating feedback loops between field implementation and modeling refinement
- Funding mechanisms for integrated modeling activities
"As countries progress toward the goals of the WHO 2030 NTD Roadmap, modeling becomes increasingly important for optimizing limited resources," said Dr. James Okoyo, AM2NTD Policy Advisor. "This framework provides a practical approach for countries to institutionalize modeling within their program structures."
The policy brief draws on lessons learned from AM2NTD's work in Kenya and Senegal, where modeling insights have already been incorporated into national strategic plans for schistosomiasis control.
The full policy brief is available for download from our Resources page, and AM2NTD is available to provide technical assistance to countries interested in implementing the framework.
