Priority Diseases

AM2NTD focuses on modeling approaches for these key Neglected Tropical Diseases affecting millions across Africa.

Leishmaniasis
Onchocerciasis
Schistosomiasis
Dengue
Rabies
Soil Transmitted Helminthiases
Trachoma
Yaws
Buruli Ulcer
Chagas
Dracunculiasis (Guinea-worm disease)
Lymphatic Filariasis
Mycetoma
Echinococcosis
Foodborne Trematodiases
Human African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness)
Our modeling work addresses these diseases through evidence-based approaches that inform policy and intervention strategies.

Projects

Schistosomiasis & STH in Kenya

This project focuses on developing and applying mathematical models to optimize control strategies for Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) in Kenya. By analyzing transmission dynamics and intervention effectiveness, we provide evidence-based recommendations to national NTD programs.

Key Outcomes:

  • Identification of high-risk areas for targeted interventions
  • Reduced treatment costs through optimized resource allocation
  • Enhanced capacity of Kenyan researchers in NTD modeling

Senegal Schistosomiasis Modelling Project

In Senegal, AM2NTD collaborates with local health authorities to model Schistosomiasis transmission and evaluate elimination strategies. This project leverages advanced epidemiological tools to inform policy and reduce disease prevalence.

Key Outcomes:

  • Development of a predictive model for Schistosomiasis hotspots
  • Support for Senegal's national elimination targets
  • Training of local modellers in simulation techniques
