About AM2NTD
The AM2NTD goal is to strengthen NTD modelling capacity in sub-saharan Africa and the use of modelling by national NTD programs
Who We Are
The AM2NTD is building modeling capacity across Africa through training and mentorship, and by responding to country-specific modeling requests. This approach equips countries with the tools to take ownership of their Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) strategies while fostering demand for modeling across other disease areas.
Our network unites partners from across the Africa region, working collaboratively to enhance NTD modeling capacity and ensure its impactful application in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Approach
Our Approach
AM2NTD is adopting a multi-faceted approach to address the modelling gap in NTD control and elimination. By building local capacity and fostering collaboration, we aim to create lasting impact across the African continent.
Key Principles:
- 1
Prioritize African expertise and leadership
- 2
Foster sustainable, long-term capacity
- 3
Connect modelling directly to program needs
- 4
Strengthen south-south knowledge exchange

Long-term Impact
Africa-led modeling guiding efficient NTD elimination
The Modelling Gap
For decades, Africa has pursued control, elimination, and eradication efforts for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). However, the lack of applied modeling insights has limited progress, leading to continued mass treatments without optimal targeting, reduced funding for NTD programs, and persistent challenges in meeting elimination goals.
Strategic modeling is critical to identify high-impact interventions, optimize resource use, and accelerate the path to NTD elimination across the continent.
Network Objectives
Our strategic objectives guide the implementation of our approach and theory of change
Our Impact Areas
Our objectives are designed to build sustainable capacity and create lasting impact across the Africa continent, creating a self-sufficient network of modeling experts who can address local NTD challenges.

Strengthening Local Capacity
Building the capacity of researchers and academics in Africa for NTD modeling through targeted training and mentorship programs.
Enhancing South-South Collaboration
Fostering collaborations among infectious disease modelers in Africa, particularly in NTDs and related areas like malaria.
Increasing Use of Modelling
Facilitating the integration of modeling insights into decision-making processes of national NTD programs in Africa.
Institutionalizing Skills
Supporting the establishment of Centres of Excellence in local universities and research institutions for policy-relevant modeling in health.
