In mid-January, University of Nairobi PhD fellow Joy Kalekye and CEMA’s Monitoring and Evaluation expert Gladys Siamanda conducted a field study on the role of health facilities in supporting the elimination of schistosomiasis in endemic Migori and Kwale counties.
The team interviewed 111 healthcare workers at 28 facilities, including dispensaries, health centers, and sub-county hospitals in Nyatike, Kuria East, Msambweni, and Matuga sub-counties. The study aims to identify key areas for investment within health facilities to help achieve SCH elimination.
The team also trained enumerators on data collection best practices and how to use the CommCare data collection tool, providing support throughout the process. The study was supported by several partners, including the Ministry of Health’s Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths focal person Florence Wakesho, KEMRI’s Stella Kepha, and the African Institute for Health and Development.
